Boeing Signs "Contractual Delivery" of First Dream
Today is a big day for Boeing. The company has faced numerous delays and production issues with its newest commercial airliner, the 787 Dreamliner, which delayed the first delivery of the jet significantly. Boeing has now signed the contractual delivery of the first production 787 Dreamliner to All Nippon Airways (ANA). Boeing is holding a celebration for the 787 Dreamliner that will end with the flyaway of the jet to the buyer on Tuesday.
The buyer of the aircraft signed today after a series of flights, inspections, and the transfer of the funds to purchase the aircraft. The festivities for Boeing workers are starting today outside the 787 factory in Everett Washington.
"Now that the airplane is ready to deliver, the entire team is ready to celebrate," said Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program. "We look forward to honoring our launch customer ANA before they fly their first Dreamliner home to Japan."
The 787 is one of the most advanced commercial aircraft on the market and uses advanced technology to provide comfort to passengers and efficiency to airlines operating the aircraft. Some of the features include composite materials for the body and wings, serrated edges on the engine nacelles to reduce noise, cleaner cabin air, larger windows with electro chromatic shades, and larger onboard luggage bins, and LED cabin lighting.
The 787 is considered a mid-size aircraft and is the first of this classification to be capable of flying long-range routes allowing the opening of some new non-stop routes for the aircraft. The 787 is also one of the most efficient aircraft of its size on the market.
"ANA has been a tremendous partner from day one," said Fancher. "Through the hard work and challenges, the Boeing team never lost focus on the commitments to our valued customer. We know ANA's customers will love this airplane."
