Hugh Jackman film Real Steel has boxed its way to the top of the US box office chart on its debut weekend.
The movie, set in the future when robot fighters replace humans in the boxing ring, made $27.3m (£17.4m), according to early estimates.
George Clooney-directed political drama, The Ides of March, entered the chart at two, making $10.4m (£6.6m).
Clooney also stars in the movie as a presidential candidate while Ryan Gosling plays his campaign manager.
Last week's number one, Dolphin Tale, slipped to third with $9.2m (£5.8m).
"Real Steel felt like a summer movie, and I think that appealed to family audiences," said Hollywood.com analyst Paul Dergarabedian.
"If you release a summer-style movie in the fall, you can still grab a pretty good audience."
Brad Pitt's baseball drama Moneyball and 50/50, a bittersweet comedy drama starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a radio writer with cancer, rounded out the top five.
